Backing Up AI Data..Or Not
Often, with new workloads or infrastructure, backup becomes an afterthought rather than a priority. Given the significant risks posed to AI-generated data by cybercriminals, it is crucial to protect as much of this data as possible. Unfortunately, most organizations are behind in this regard. Our research shows that only 1 in 10 reports indicate that more than 75% of AI-generated data is backed up.

In a perfect world, all AI-generated data should be backed up and made recoverable. This data points to a clear lack of maturity in current deployments across many organizations. It is also somewhat counterintuitive, as one would expect organizations that invest heavily in AI to protect their investment better.
Moving Forward
As AI deployments continue to grow, we anticipate a significant increase in data generation. If backup practices do not evolve to safeguard model-generated data, metadata, archives, and related assets, we could encounter numerous issues. It is essential to maintain a record of every decision and transaction for business and compliance purposes, as well as to protect the results of various AI processes across the enterprise.
AI Data Loss Hurts The Wallet
Although AI workloads may be new to infrastructure, the concept of data loss has been well understood across all types of workloads for many years. IT professionals recognize that data loss in AI deployments can be costly, resulting in significant direct and indirect expenses and operational inefficiencies. Our survey makes this evident:

This presents an opportunity for both end-users and vendors focused on data protection to enhance the coverage of their solutions, ultimately creating a positive impact on business.
