Survey Says… Bye Bye Data!

In January,we organized a groundbreaking summit on Cyber Resiliency featuring industry thought leaders. We explored a wide range of topics and gained many valuable insights. Recently, we shared the findings from the research conducted during the summit in collaboration with our sponsor, Dell Technologies.

Data Is Impacted….

Our recent Cube Research survey highlights a concerning reality regarding cyber incidents: a substantial amount of data is often affected, resulting in serious implications for organizations across different sectors. Alarmingly, only 5% of respondents reported experiencing minimal impact, which means less than 5% of their data was affected during these incidents. While organizations faced varying degrees of impact on their data infrastructure, any level of impact represents a fundamental problem.

….And Lost

This survey underscores a grim truth: most organizations encounter substantial data loss in the face of cyber threats. This reality can have dire consequences not only for governance but also for compliance with industry regulations, which are becoming increasingly stringent in today’s interconnected world.

Even more troubling is the finding that only 12% of organizations recovered all of their data after a successful attack (one that had an operational impact). Most respondents reported recovery rates within 26% to 50% or 51% to 75%, highlighting a significant vulnerability in their data protection and recovery strategies. This limited performance in data recovery casts a shadow on organizations’ resilience in the face of increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.

This high exposure to potential data loss highlights why cyber resiliency is essential for not only protecting our data infrastructure but also safeguarding mission-critical applications that drive core business processes.

Wrapping Up

Organizations that fall victim to cyber attacks are not just battling data loss; they are also at risk of facing ransom demands and heightened overall business risk. The potential for financial loss, reputational damage, and operational disruption can be devastating, with long-lasting repercussions that can jeopardize an organization’s viability. As such, the stakes have never been higher, and organizations must take proactive measures to safeguard their data assets and ensure business continuity.

Recognizing the importance of cyber resiliency is not just an IT challenge but a crucial business concern that demands the attention of organizational leaders. Decision-makers must prioritize the development of comprehensive cybersecurity strategies that integrate risk management, employee training, and technological investments. In doing so, organizations can better position themselves to navigate the evolving threat landscape and protect their most valuable asset: data.
