Discussing Cyber Resiliency New Research With Dell Technology

Overview of the CubeResearch’s Cyber Resiliency Research

Cyber resiliency has become front and center in the industry. Recently, Dell Technologies sponsored the Cyber Resiliency Summit and associated market research designed to evaluate trends in infrastructure technology pertinent to cyber resiliency. This research involved 600 qualified respondents, primarily from North America, Western Europe, and Asia-Pacific, explicitly focusing on enterprise-level participants. Key areas of investigation included data management, networking, backup, and recovery, all framed within the NIST guidelines for cyber resiliency.

Christophe Bertrand and Dell’s Brian White discuss recent cyber resiliency research findings

Understanding Cyber Resiliency

Respondents identified several critical components of cyber resiliency:

  • Cyber information security software and services (ranked first)
  • Public cloud solutions (second)
  • Backup and recovery software (third)
  • AI technology (fourth)

These findings highlight the increasing recognition of the need to integrate AI into cyber resiliency strategies, serving as a protective measure and a potential avenue for vulnerabilities.

Notably, 85% of respondents demonstrated familiarity with the NIST framework, underscoring its significance as a common reference point or “language” for cyber and IT teams to leverage.

The Impact of Cyber Attacks

Approximately two-thirds of organizations reported experiencing cyber attacks in the past year, which resulted in operational disruptions and financial losses. The predominant effects included operational interruptions and financial detriment, with data exposure noted as a substantial concern.

These circumstances indicate organizations’ need to prepare for the inevitability of cyber attacks by devising effective recovery strategies and enhancing their understanding of vulnerabilities.

Challenges in Recovery

The research also revealed that recovery from cyber attacks is frequently prolonged. Many organizations require over four days to recover fully, with only 12% of respondents recovering all their data following an attack; conversely, 51% reported recovering only partially. This underscores the urgent need for robust data protection strategies and the critical importance of maintaining clean backups.

Recommendations

Brian White provides several strategic recommendations for organizations aiming to strengthen their posture:

  • Reduce attack surfaces by ensuring environments are secure and systems are updated.
  • Implement detection and response measures to identify and mitigate threats promptly.
  • Conduct regular tests and training to prepare organizations for effective recovery from cyber attacks.

Wrapping Up

Cyber resiliency has emerged as a significant focal point within the industry and is poised to remain a key investment area for end users. This evolution integrates traditional cybersecurity teams with IT operations and infrastructure, representing a fundamental shift in the market landscape. Dell has taken proactive steps in this domain over the past few years, with other vendors now following suit.

In the coming weeks, I will be delving into this comprehensive research, including outlining the existing gaps and providing an overview of the market’s current state. I encourage you to stay tuned for further insights.
